Training Visa

The Australian Subclass 407 Training Visa allows individuals to participate in workplace-based occupational training or professional development in Australia, often for gaining registration or licensing, enhancing skills, or capacity building.

Purpose: The 407 visa is a temporary visa designed for individuals seeking to undertake occupational training or professional development in Australia.

Types of Training: The visa allows participation in activities like:

  • Workplace-based training for registration or licensing.
  • Structured workplace-based training to enhance skills in an eligible occupation.
  • Training to enhance skills or competency.
  • Capacity building work overseas.
  • Continuing professional development (CPD) experience or training.
  • Improving skills related to higher education studies.

Duration:The visa is generally valid for stays in Australia of up to two years.

Key Features:Sponsored by an approved employer: Applicants must be nominated by an approved temporary activities sponsor.

Limited to training activities: Work restrictions apply, and you can only engage in activities related to the training program.

Health Insurance: You must maintain valid health insurance while in Australia.

Not a pathway to permanent residency: The 407 visa is a temporary visa and does not lead to permanent residency.

Eligibility Requirements:

Nomination: You must be nominated by an approved temporary activities sponsor.

Functional English: You need to demonstrate functional English language skills.

Health and Character: You must meet the health and character requirements.

Genuine Training Opportunity: The training program must be genuine and assessed by the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

Relevant Qualifications and Experience: You should have the relevant qualifications and experience to undertake the training.

No Preference for Overseas Candidates: Similar training opportunities should also be available to Australian residents.

Family Members: Eligible family members can be included in the visa application, but they must meet specific requirements.

Work Restrictions for Secondary Applicants: From 1 July 2023, work restrictions for secondary applicants holding a 407 Training visa will be re-introduced and capped at 40 hours per fortnight.
